FOREWORD

This is a continuing monthly issue of committee prints of Veterans' Admin-
istration activities initiated with the February 1972 edition, which was designed
to fill the need of Members of Congress and other interested parties for accurate
and conveniently presented detailed information about programs administered
by the Veterans' Administration.

It contains statistical information concerning Veterans' Administration
activities on most of the major programs, including health care, VA drug
dependence, VA alcohol dependence, education and training, compensation and
pension, guaranteed or insured loans, and direct loans.

In addition, on a quarterly basis, tables are added to reflect the cumulative
statistics for the fiscal year to date for these programs where such information
is pertinent. Also, on a periodic basis, information on the veterans' outreach
services program, the insurance program, and the Veterans' Administration
expenditures, and the veterans population statistics will be included.

We believe that regular reporting of these data will be of considerable
benefit to the members of the Veterans' Affairs Committee and other interested
and concerned parties.

The committee wishes to thank the Veterans' Administration for its
splendid cooperation in helping to make this material available.

Vance Hartke,

Chairman.
